The mural has been a constant in Wannabes.  The green handprint is inspired by the imagery used by the Sandy Hook Promise.  The idea of having an art installation in the story in the first place is inspired by Change The Ref since Manuel Oliver, Joaquin Oliver's father, uses art to tell his son's story and spark outrage in the hearts of people who would otherwise turn a blind eye to gun violence.
